Dubai Municipality & Environmental Center for Arab Towns sign MOU with IIR Holdings, the organisers of Cityscape, to jointly organise
Future Cities Conference and Exhibition for 2011

Collaboration to promote sustainable development of tomorrow’s leading cities

Dubai, UAE. 3 July 2011: Dubai Municipality and the Environmental Center for Arab Towns (ECAT) have joined together with the organisers of Cityscape, to produce a three-day event, which will showcase leading solutions and technologies and deliver information and inspire debate on the needs of the cities of tomorrow.

Future Cities will debut from 27-29 September at Dubai World Trade Centre, running parallel with the premier international real estate event, Cityscape Global. As well as an exhibition, the event will encompass a conference with discussions on sustainability, urban design, and creating identities as well as presentations from Dubai Municipality and ECAT on the vision for the Emirate.

Future Cities will provide the premier forum uniting public and private sector stakeholders in active discussion to tackle the tremendous challenges urban leaders face in implementing and maintaining sustainable urban growth in challenging economic times.  Through high-profile presentations, high-level discussion panels and a forward-looking exhibition, Future Cities will help delegates, speakers and visitors find solutions and long term strategies for ensuring social, economic and environmental development of tomorrow's global cities.  It will also serve to position Dubai as a leading global city and showcase the significant achievements that have been made.

His Excellency Hussain Nasser Lootah, the director general of Dubai Municipality, will be presenting the opening keynote speech with an overview of the future vision for Dubai and the strategy that is being put in place to develop the Emirate.

His Excellency Hussain Nasser Lootah, commented: “I am delighted to announce our partnership as co-organiser of the Future Cities event to be located alongside Cityscape Global in September.  I believe there is a real need for forums such as this where cities from around the world can come together to discuss strategies and determine best practice going forward.  Dubai Municipality and the Environmental Center for Arab Towns (ECAT) are proud of the significant steps we have taken to launch green policies.

We intend to use Future Cities as a springboard for new environmental initiatives to be announced at the event. Whilst great advances have been made in ‘greening Dubai’ in the last few years, there is still much more to be done.  For this reason and many others we are honoured to host this event in Dubai and look forward to welcoming regional and international leaders to discuss this important subject to ensure sustainable growth and development of our future cities.”

High level speakers from the United Nations, the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change, Birmingham City Council, the Sao Paulo City Council, Dubai Exports and the Arab Urban Development Institute have already been confirmed. The event has been devised as a direct result of feedback from industry experts, who have identified a need for access to information and the creation of a platform to discuss and showcase sustainable solutions.

Rohan Marwaha, managing director of Cityscape said, “We are honoured to be partnering with the Dubai Municipality and ECAT on this exciting new event, which will help to reconfirm Dubai’s position as a leading global city.  Future Cities will bring together senior government figures and policy makers from around the region, and the world, to discuss the key challenges that face every city today including sustainable economic growth, infrastructure provision and social well-being and cohesion. We have had many requests for an event like this over the years and particularly in light of recent events, we believe that the time is right to open discussions like this on a regional and global scale.”

Future Cities will take place from 27-29 September at DWTC. For further information, please visit www.cityscapeglobal.com.
